Summer Maintenance Guide for Your Electric Scooter

Summer Maintenance Guide for Your Electric Scooter

With the summer seasons comes beautiful weather but also scorching temperatures. As electric scooters are built with sensitive instruments, the need to properly take care and maintain them during the summer is essential to prevent long-term damage.

Easy Tips for Maintaining Your Electric Scooter in the Heat

Avoid extreme heat: Electric scooters have sensitive batteries that should not be exposed to high temperatures. Try to park your scooter in cool and shaded places whenever possible.

Do not charge immediately after a ride: Avoid charging your scooter immediately after a riding session in order to let your battery cool down. Wait a half hour or so before connecting your charger to help avoid overheating. Again, try to do this in a cool or shaded area.

Keep your scooter clean: Dust and debris can clog the cooling system of the scooter and lead to overheating. Use mild detergent and water to clean the grime off your scooter. Consider applying a coating to prevent harmful sun exposure from fading or damaging the paint.

Don't overcharge: Follow manufacturer's guidelines for charging your electric scooter. The battery is best kept charged between 80% and 20%. When sufficiently charged, remove the charger.

Riding Your Electric Scooter in the Heat

Plan your ride: Pick a cooler time to ride such as the early morning or late in the evening whenever possible, as the temperatures are much cooler. Take a route through shaded areas to provide relief from the sun if you must go out during high heat times.

Incorporate breaks: You don't have to complete your journey in one go. You can incorporate breaks to give time for you and your scooter to cool down. Find a shaded area, hydrate, and then continue on your journey.

Wear a ventilated helmet: It's very important to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets when riding electric scooters, but it can cause you to feel hotter and sweat more. Wear a light and ventilated helmet to allow for continuous airflow, such as the OKAI helmet.

Electric scooters are built to last, but just like any electronic device, it's better to use safe practices when handling in order to prolong the life of the vehicle as long as possible.
